Music Midtown announces Festival Hiatus in 2024
Music Midtown 2024 has been canceled and will be taking a hiatus after three-decade run.
Atlanta’s legendary Music Midtown festival has been canceled for Summer 2024. The news comes straight from an official statement that was posted on social media by the festival’s organizers.
While there is no more information surrounding the reasoning behind Music Midtown’s hiatus, the organizers have encouraged fans to continue to support live music in Atlanta and stay tuned for updates in the future.
Established in 1994 and running for nearly three decades, Music Midtown is one of the most anticipated events in the American music festival scene. Held in mid-September at the famous Piedmont Park, Music Midtown has been home to some of the biggest names in music like Billie Eilish, Flume, Louis The Child, Miley Cyrus, Future, and Travis Scott.
Historically, this is not the first time the festival has been on hiatus since its inception. The first hiatus lasted for 6 years from 2005-2010, but returned in 2011. From then on, the beloved festival was held annually until it was canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
After returning in 2021, the festival was canceled yet again in 2022 due to legal concerns over the organizer’s competence in banning guns relating to a newer court ruling at the time. The ruling made it more difficult for private groups to forbid gun owners from bringing their weapons into the festival grounds. Despite the dispute over whether weapons were allowed in the facility, Music Midtown returned in 2023 with a strict no-weapons policy.
As fans eagerly waited for the 2024 line-up, the news of the hiatus was shocking to many who are now demanding answers regarding how long the hiatus would be this time around.
