Rezz Explains Her Humble Beginnings for Critics Who “Know Nothing” About Her

Rezz has taken to the internet to explain her origins, silencing critics who doubt her journey.

In a topic that isn’t new to the Canadian DJ, Rezz explains in a new statement to critics that the accomplishments she’s managed to achieve are due to her hard work over the years. From making beats in her parent’s basement and performing at raves for free to sold-out tours, that kind of success doesn’t come without putting in time and effort.

In 2020, Rezz appeared in a documentary called Underplayed, where she spoke on the types of asymmetry that exist in the careers of EDM artists between men and women. Four years later, she has to still to defend herself from people claiming that she is only successful and popular due to collaborations, diminishing her solo mega-hits like “Edge.”

Rezz explains in a post on social media her humble beginnings in music to address harsh criticism from critics.

To corroborate the story, fellow DJ and record producer Ghastly responded, “Can confirm all of this, we were in the same Joshua li producer forum years ago just sharing ideas and hyping each other up – organic growth, the hater’s mind can’t comprehend.” Besides fellow artists, her fans came to shower her with support in the comments with respect and praise.

Back in January, Rezz took to Instagram to make a post about her gender, revealing how she is constantly misgendered. Explaining how she’s “aware of the vibe” given off by looking androgynous, she wanted to make it apparent she’s a female DJ “cuz that representation is important.”

The first quarter of 2024 for the DJ has been jam-packed, with the release of her fifth studio album ‘CAN YOU SEE ME?’ and consistent touring. With multiple festivals lined up, such as Beyond Wonderland Chicago and Tomorrowland, Rezz will also perform a sold-out headlining show in August at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre called the ‘REZZ ROCKS VI.’

In becoming a high-achieving artist, she understands that critics will always be there. But from the sound of her latest album, Rezz doesn’t allow these negative remarks to impact her ability to drop banger after banger.
