Who is SLANDER, the DJ Duo from Los Angeles?

THE LOS ANGELES DUO SLANDER HAVE RISEN THE RANKS.

SLANDER, the multi-genre DJ duo from Los Angeles, have made monstrous strides in music since their 2014 remix of “We Like to Party.” The duo consists of Derek Andersen and Scott Land, who both attended the University of California, Irvine. While their music careers were only brewing at the time, the two decided to explore production further at the Icon Collective, a production school.

It was here SLANDER had met the DJ Nghtmre; the innocuous introduction has since resulted in a number of Nghtmre collaborations. As SLANDER gained confidence in their own right, they elevated their performances from casual college gigs and city venues to big-name festivals. Through collaboration, high-volume output, and earnest work, the Los Angeles-based duo have refined their sense of music.

The Los Angeles natives had released ‘Nuclear Bonds’ in tandem with Nghtmre, supported by Diplo’s label Mad Decent. From their inception, the two have whittled away at their talents. Bolstering their catalog of music, SLANDER has remixed a number of tracks that have had big impacts on the EDM scene.

Remixing from the likes of Gorgon City, Showtek, Arty (and many more) has revealed a love for music as a whole. SLANDER then remixed one of their best tracks – Above & Beyond’s “Love Is Not Enough.” They have been praised for finding a sweet spot in melodic trap music.

SLANDER’s melodic and wavy style has landed them invitations to festivals such as Electric Zoo, Electric Forest, and EDC. Their trap-trance has surely made shows a can’t miss at festivals. Unsurprisingly, the duo have accrued more than six million monthly followers on Spotify.

From their early start as college friends, SLANDER has made enormous progress in their development. Creating, remixing, and seemingly breathing music, the two have showcased a simple love for production. Undoubtedly, their meteoric rise has yet to reach its full potential.

Like many others, I often dive into a variety of music genres and explore, as best I can, what resonates while I listen. For me, EDM is a dense subset of music with unique artistry and textured sounds - a facet of melody and tune that I will always investigate.
