Best B2B Performances of Ultra 2024

An Ultra 2024 recap: the best B2B performances of the weekend.

This last past Ultra didn’t exactly go as planned… Due to circumstances beyond the production team’s control (torrential downpours and incessant monsooning), the festival ended early on Friday night, Day One of the three-day bender. Despite the weather, which Ultra had not seen for over a decade, Day Two championed a roaring comeback. Ultra brought the heat with updated set lists for Saturday and Sunday and slotted select impromptu B2Bs and guest performances.

Hi-Lo B2B Eli Brown was undoubtedly a noteworthy moment from the weekend. The B2B took place at The Cove, the stage closest to the Resistance Megastructure, the second largest stage at the festival. Last year The Cove hosted mega talents such as Nicole Moudaber and Claude VonStroke, and this year presented performances from Eli and Hi-Lo, Patrick Mason, Reiner Zonneveld, and more.

Eli Brown, a UK DJ originally from Bristol, has become an artist to watch. His recent hit single “Diamonds On My Mind” was chanted back to him by an enamored and energized crowd. Eli’s style, although rooted in dum and base, currently presents as edgy house. The B2B kicked off at golden hour and, in contrast to the day prior, the sun was shining bright and spirits were high.

Another noteworthy highlight was Dimension B2B Nghtmre, an impromptu guest collaboration as Nghtmre was not originally scheduled to perform. The B2B took place at the Worldwide Stage, best known for showcasing heavier dubstep performances. During Ultra this year, the Worldwide Stage featured performances from Seven Lions, Wooli, Svdden Death, and Black Tiger Sex Machine, among others.

Nghtmre, a trap house artist from North Carolina, and Dimension, a British drum and bass artist, created an edgy but melodic blend of their respective sounds. Both Nghtmre and Dimension amped up the crowd during their dusk set. At one point, Dimension also brought out Alison Wonderland to the unbridled excitement of Ultra’s EDM fanatics.

RL Grime B2B Knock2 threw down for a powerful collaboration at the Worldwide Stage on Saturday night, Day Two of Ultra. As the closing set, both DJs performed to a packed audience. Knock2 also brought out ISOxo, an up-and-coming music producer from San Diego, during an amazing spectacle of pyrotechnics.

Californian DJ RL Grime is best known for house trap, exemplified by his notorious annual Halloween mixtapes. RL Grime is a lauded producer and one of the most well-known DJs of the trap house genre. Knock2 is also a dubstep/trap artist, although newer to the scene. Knock2 took to X, formerly Twitter, to share sentiments on his Ultra experience. “I went B2B with one of my heroes, [RL Grime.] Thank [you] all so much, truly.” Performing alongside one of the most celebrated artists in EDM was apparently as moving for Knock2 as it was for the enthusiastic crowd of onlookers, Ultra’s raging patrons of all things electronic dance.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
