Dozens of Phones Stolen and Pickpocketers Reported at Skyline Music Festival in Los Angeles
Skyline Music Festival has fallen victim to the epidemic of pickpocketers as concertgoers report stolen items.
It has been reported that pickpocketers stole dozens of phones and items at the Skyline Music Festival in Los Angeles over the weekend. This is yet another festival where its patrons have been targets for theft of their personal items.
Though the unsettling feeling of having anything stolen or lost can have a drastic effect on the victims‘ experience at a festival – many of the concertgoers chose to make light of the situation.
Patrons who had items stolen from them posted light-hearted content on their social media in response to the theft. Some videos included highlighting the rarity of crowd members not recording videos or taking pictures on their phones – something that is a new norm and regular occurrence at shows today. Other videos include the use of iPads in replacement of the stolen phones in order to capture the performances.
Unfortunately, music festivals are the epicenter for pickpocketers, as many target festival goers due to the negligence that occurs when they are enjoying the shows. Some of the biggest festivals in the world have had dozens of reports of stolen phones, like Tomorrowland, EDC, Lollapalooza, and more. It is evident that phones being stolen is one of the biggest problems in music festival culture.
Though it is hard to implement action to eliminate pickpocketing, there are many ways to avoid it. Here are some tips to keep in mind when attending a festival in order to keep your belongings safe:
1. Do not keep your phone in your back pocket – always have it in your front pocket, hand, or in a zipped compartment in your bag where you know its location.
2. Immediately turn on lost mode from another device once it is stolen. This not only can help you track your device, but it locks the screen so no one can enter it. Make sure to know your iCloud information so that you can quickly log in on another device and switch the mode on once stolen.
3. Download the Google Photos app on your iPhone – this is useful to recover the content captured before a phone is lost. The app will instantly upload any photo or video taken to avoid the risk of loss footage.
