Printworks Unveils Reopening Plan for ‘Permanent Cultural Venue’ by 2026
the notorious London event space Printworks is meant to reopen by 2026 as a permanent cultural venue.
It has been revealed that Printworks may reopen by 2026, as development plans for a “permanent cultural venue’ have been submitted. The music venue is scheduled to return to the Press Halls section of the building, which is the original location that sparked its famous reputation in the UK.
The owners of the site are British Land and Australian Super who double as the property developers. The owners have delivered a detailed proposal to the Southwark Council to reinstate half of the site as a permanent cultural space. The other half of the space will continue as planned for becoming offices and shops.
After closing its doors in May 2023, the building was sealed for redevelopment and has mostly been gutted from the inside in parts of the building. The location is a former newspaper printing establishment from which the venue takes its name. Located in Rotherhithe, South London, Printworks is one of the UK’s most notorious nightclub and events venues that opened in 2017.
Throughout the years, the 6,000-person capacity space has hosted some of the world’s most famous DJs including Dom Dolla, the Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twins, deadmau5, Rüfüs du Sol, and more. It has become one of the most bucket-listed venues for DJs to perform worldwide, and now many will get the chance to perform there still.
With the announcement of Printworks reopening planned for 2026, fans have been raving about its return. The notorious venue will again serve as a multi-purpose event space that will host electronic music events, club nights, art exhibitions, and corporate events.
On Printworks’ website, the main page contains a cryptic message saying, “See you in 2026?” though no official news has been posted. The latest news posted from the site was from May 5th, 2023 unveiling the official Printworks merch store which will be opening again soon. In the meantime, many can experience the magic of Printworks at London’s newest venue, Drumsheds, an event space created in 2023 from the minds behind Printworks – which is gearing up for its second season starting February 23rd, 2024.
