MIA Calls Out Roc Nation and Jay Z for The Downfall of Her Music Career

MIA has called out jay-Z and Roc nation for damage to her music career.

M.I.A. blames Roc Nation and Jay-Z for the downfall of her music career. In a series of irate tweets, M.I.A. has exhumed past experiences and exchanges in her life to illuminate the factors and people that led to her professional decay. She cited her fight for child custody with Benjamin Bronfman followed by the distancing from her representation (a salient problem today) Rock Nation, which was founded by Jay-Z.

When M.I.A. took to X (formerly Twitter), she admonished Rock Nation and Jay-Z for having stolen both her music and style. Moreover, she claims that her style was callously passed onto puppets in the music industry. Ultimately, Jay-Z had stymied and plummeted MIA’s career, according to the artist.

M.I.A. had started her career in the early 2000s, gaining momentum as an underground artist. Her two singles “Sunshowers” and “Galang” both ignited her career as well as showcased her experimental electronic prowess. From then on, M.I.A. has acted as a seismic factor in the music field.

While she had already made an imprint, M.I.A. had created cultural favorites with her tracks “Bad Girls,” “FRANCHISE,” and “Paper Planes” produced by Diplo. These are all records that have graced dancefloors and clubs for many years now. With a well-established stint in music, M.I.A.’s claims have come as a poignant shock.

As she mentions in her tweets, M.I.A.’s first custody battle began in 2013. She had sacrificed much of her career for her child, and Roc Nation had only further impinged on her noble choice. M.I.A. has called into question the fair question of morality, based on the treatment she received from her representation.

Moreover, M.I.A. alleged that Jay-Z was “ultimately paid by the Bronfmans,” enmiring an already dense dynamic. At the very least, M.I.A. has always shown she has a special knack for music. Despite the entanglement of personal and musical life, her catalog of alternative electronic music will remain unsullied.

Like many others, I often dive into a variety of music genres and explore, as best I can, what resonates while I listen. For me, EDM is a dense subset of music with unique artistry and textured sounds - a facet of melody and tune that I will always investigate.
