Inside the 10-Year Journey of French DJ and Producer Petit Biscuit
Petit Biscuit, known to his friends and family as Mehdi Benjelloun, has recently reflected via Instagram on his ten-year journey as an artist. With more than 3.6 million monthly listeners on Spotify, the French DJ and producer has come a long way from his youth, spent in northern France’s capital, the Gothic Rouen. Although Benjelloun is merely 24 years old, he’s performed all over the world, from Australia to Canada to Japan to Europe, and, most notably, the world-famous Coachella.
“[It now marks] 10 years that I’m making music as Petit Biscuit,” muses Benjelloun. “[In] early 2014, I was making music in my bedroom and one of my [friends] helped me find the name Petit Biscuit as a soft, french name to release my music. I made a couple [of] tracks that I don’t even remember the name of, and then Palms, Night Trouble came out… and of course, Sunset Lover a year after.”
Benjelloun expatiates further, describing Sunset Lover as the breakout track that helped propel him into a successful career in the music industry, providing him with an opportunity to then embark on a debut US tour. Shortly after the tour, Benjelloun released his first album ‘« Presence »,’ which then spawned his sold-out ‘Zenith’ tour in France. Above all else, Benjelloun comments on his eagerness to meet fans, to greet them after his show, humbly demonstrating reciprocity.
“In 2019, it was time for a break,” continued Benjelloun. “I’ve [taken] my computer and instruments straight [through] Iceland to compose my second album. Finished it in California, [with] a whole different vibe. « Parachute » was born, but I didn’t [have] the chance to defend it on stage as everyone knew what happened in 2020…”
To close out his statement, Benjelloun teases an album drop in 2024, advising fans to “be ready.” This year will mark a decade in the music industry creating music, touching the lives of countless fans, and traveling the world as an artist and patron of EDM – and, perhaps, the inundation of new music, art, and memories.
