first-time nominee Fred Again.. is now a two-time Grammy Award winner.
At the 66th annual Grammy Awards, Fred Again.. dominated the Electronic/Dance category, winning two of the three awards that he was nominated for. As a first-time nominee, Fred Again.. was nominated for, ‘Best New Artist,’ ‘Best Dance/Electronic Album,’ and ‘Best Dance/Electronic Recording.’
This past Sunday (February 4th) Fred Again.. won ‘Best Dance/Electronic Album’ for his third studio album, ‘Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 2022), and ‘Best Dance/Electronic Recording’ for the collaborative song “Rumble,” with Skrillex and Flowdan. Joining Fred as a first-time Grammy winner is Flowdan, who is now the first UK MC to win a Grammy Award. At the ceremony, 12-time Grammy nominated artist Skrillex accepted the award on the trio’s behalf, making it his 9th Grammy win.
Fred Again.. was not in attendance at the award show, but he showed his gratitude for this massive win by sharing never-before-seen footage on Instagram. The raw video features himself and Flowdan performing an unplugged version of “Rumble.” Amongst the thousands of fans giving him his kudos for the win, artists such as Tiësto and Ty Dolla $ign flooded his comments congratulating him as well.
Though “Rumble” won best Dance/Electronic recording this year, the song was created about 5 years ago when Flowdan and Fred Again.. first connected. Flowdan recounts the beginning of the collaboration in an interview with Beatport. He revealed that after Fred had heard Flowdan’s song “Skeng” he was interested in having a studio session.
In the studio, the two of them shared creative ideas and at the end of the session when Flowdan was leaving the studio, Fred played him the beat for “Rumble.” Flowdan recounts the moment hearing the beat for the first time and immediately freestyling the lyrics, “run for dem life, when I step into the jungle.”
About a year later, Fred met Skrillex in person for the first time after working remotely on Ed Sheeran‘s album, ‘No 6 Collaborations Project.’ After sharing the track with Skrillex, the record was finished and first premiered at Fred Again..’s viral Boiler Room set. Now, the song has made history and has awarded Fred with his first-ever win.
