Alison Wonderland Calls Out Universal Music Group for TikTok Removal
Alison Wonderland has called out Universal Music Group for music removal from Tiktok.
Alison Wonderland has called out Universal Music Group (UMG) for removing her music from TikTok, after the music corporation and social media platform couldn’t reach an agreement on music rights. The Sydney local has come to TikTok in an act of ironic defiance of UMG, as she teased unreleased music. Alison Wonderland argued that the removal of her (and everyone’s) music had eclipsed her ability to promote new and old music.
UMG has accused TikTok of attempting to pay only a fraction of what other media platforms pay for their music. As a result, artists have been caught in the giant’s crossfire. Artists under the UMG umbrella are strapped for options.
Since its release in 2016, Tiktok has amassed around 3 billion subscribers and has become integral in the daily habits of scrolling for many. Because of this, many artists have grown their popularity and stardom through their videos online. After the deal, many artists had come to the floor to voice their grievances.
In Alison Wonderland’s experience, she had only wanted to gauge the use of her new music release on TikTok. It was of stark surprise when she had found all music disappeared from the social media’s roster. This is why Alison Wonderland had taken to TikTok to express her woes about UMG’s handling.
In mainstream coverage, artists like Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, and Lewis Capaldi have usurped most of the attention. However, other independent artists, who the deal also affects, have been left out of the limelight. Alison Wonderland’s video has reflected the sentiments of many other performers.
Excitingly, the UMG announcement has not deterred Alison Wonderland from making and promoting her own work. She has decided to keep teasing unreleased music, despite UMG’s rift with TikTok. At the very least, performers have shown great resilience when it comes to their artistry.
