Watch Diplo and Flume at Secular Sabbath Sensory Experience in Antarctica
Grammy-winning DJs Diplo and Flume traveled to Antarctica for seven days with Secular Sabbath.
In August of 2023, Diplo announced a partnership with Secular Sabbath and Flume for a forthcoming seven-day, luxury cruise to Antarctica, scheduled to take place from December 13th through the 20th. The trip was planned in conjunction with Insider Expeditions. Its modus operandi: to raise funds and awareness for ocean conservation. According to Insider Expedition, a portion of the profits were gifted to Sea Legacy “and other non-profits protecting our beautiful planet.”
Secular Sabbath is an LA-based community centered around curated experiences, ambient music, and spiritual evolution. Members pay a monthly membership fee and get early access to event ticket sales and discounts. To promote inclusivity, membership features three tiers, with “Golden Circle” members investing the most per month, although there are economical options as well.
Although the purported purposes of the trip were spiritual evolution and philanthropic commitment, DJs Diplo and Flume certainly did not miss out on any fun. Diplo and Flume both took turns taking cold lunges into the freezing Antarctic Ocean and DJed B2B for a sunrise set. They played what appeared to be a game of hide and seek aboard the ship, went hiking through glacial topographies, paparazzied penguins, ate some suspicious million-year-old ice, and perhaps officiated a wedding.
According to beloved Australian DJ Flume via Instagram, the trip was certainly one to remember. “Genuinely one of the most insane/inspiring experiences of my life.” Diplo was more effusive in his commentary, although equally as laudatory. “Antarctica day 5. No one told me salt water freezes at 27 degrees. I’ve jumped into the ocean anyway. It was the coldest cold [you] could [ever] feel. Last night I officiated my first wedding… We climbed to the top of a mountain on the continent to see more whales – they spouted at us in joy. We also ate 2 million-year-old ice… [We] woke up and saw some more penguins. This is paradise. [I] love you and will report back tomorrow.”
