CUT_ Touches on Emotional Trauma Suffered From Invasion with New Single ‘The w*r’
Created during the Russian invasion of Ukraine, CUT_ has released their new single, ‘The w*r,’ a beacon in the face of adversity.
In a time when the world is struck by war, Dutch electronic duo CUT_ has channeled that turmoil into their new single ‘The w*r.’ Influenced by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the duo has made it a mission to provide comfort and support through music.
CUT_, comprised of Sebastian Dutilh and Belle Doron, began their musical journey in 2014. They started as a live electronic improvisation act before they began experimenting with production and songwriting. In 2014, they made an English rendition of Stromae’s ‘Papoutai’ that went viral and was even recognized by Stromae.
After several successful releases and millions of streams, CUT_ released their debut album, “A Small Group Of Individuals,” in 2019. Their second single, “Out Of Touch,” gained the most acclaim as it appeared on the Netflix show Elite. Since then, the duo released another album in 2022 and have marked a new era with their new single ‘The w*r.’
‘The w*r’ was created in a cabin in the woods in 2022 amidst the Russian invasion of Ukraine. CUT_ never intended to make such dark-inspired music, but the atrocities invoked a deep emotional response from the duo. You can hear this in the haunting vocals from Belle Doron with lyrics that echo a message of strength.
In addition to the song, CUT_ also released a music video for ‘The w*r,’ a fourth installment of the planned eight. The music video stays true to the duo’s unique vision, featuring shots captured by CUT_ with enhanced glitch artistry. The result showcases a strong young woman in armor-like attire with a nostalgic analog ’90s vibe.
Using their music as a medium, CUT_ encourages listeners to emerge stronger with their new song ‘The w*r.’ Resonating anew in light of recent events, ‘The w*r’ is a testament to the power of music.
