Background information on the American dubstep DJ and producer Subtronics.
Jesse Kardon, better known as Subtronics, is an American DJ and producer from Philadelphia who has found much success in the EDM scene. With his 31st birthday just around the corner on December 23rd, the DJ is still going strong in a career that’s almost been ten years in the making. As the DJ has garnered more traction in the past few years, fans are curious about background information on who Subtronics is as a person.
While in high school, Subtronics discovered his first wave of dubstep with Skream, Caspa, and Rusko. He learned the basics of his now signature sound via tutorial videos when he first heard artists like Skrillex and Excision. This new style of music was something he’d never heard before, inspiring him to try it out himself. According to Shore Fire Media, Kardon formed the name for his alias by combining SUBwoofers and elecTRONICS.
At 5 feet and seven inches tall, or 170 centimeters, Subtronics is known for producing beats larger than life and giving killer performances. Over the years, the DJ has performed at many iconic festivals such as Electric Forest, Bass Canyon, Lost Lands, and Electric Zoo.
Subtronics found superstardom when his song “Griztronics” with electronic music artist GRiZ peaked on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs at number 9 in late 2019. Even though the DJ had released multiple mixtapes, singles, and EPs over the years, Subtronics had never made a full-length album. Fans were pleased when his first official, full-length album titled ‘FRACTALS’ came out in January of last year but were shocked when he released a second album ‘ANTIFRACTALS’ in December 2022.
Aside from his professional life, Subtronics announced he married fellow producer and dubstep DJ Sonya Broner, known by her alias LEVEL UP, this past October. The couple has been together in the public eye for the last four years, with their engagement announcement being in June of 2022.
Throughout 2023, Subtronics’s performances varied songs from his new albums mixed with some fan classics in different countries and festivals. With the new year right around the corner, Subtronic has the TESSERACT Tour that will span over three weeks beginning in February. Tickets for shows in the US are now on sale and can be purchased on his website here.
