Eli Escobar Opens New Venue Gabriela in Brooklyn
Brooklyn, New York, is getting a brand new intimate club space created by Eli Escobar: Gabriela.
New York-based DJ Eli Escobar will open his very own venue/club in Brooklyn, New York, called Gabriela set for December 15. The venue will host intimate music events and will be located at 90 Wythe Avenue. Gabriela will be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from 10 pm to 4 am.
The Instagram page for the venue dubs it “your favorite new club.” The venue is split into three different rooms that will include a bar with food and drinks, a dancefloor, and a balcony. The speakers at the venue are unique as they have been created by Gary Stewart whose audio systems are also present in major New York City clubs Love and Vinyl.
Escobar also made a post on Instagram on his page and said that opening the club feels surreal because it has taken him a long time to get here but that he is very happy that it is happening now. He added that he always dreamed of opening up his little club and specifically doing it with like-minded friends who share his love of music and nightlife. Escobar said that he always had a sense of what a club should look like from a DJ’s perspective.
The New York DJ added that Gabriela is a 100 percent labor of love and that nothing makes him happier than intimate dance floors with amazing sound, lights, and music. Escobar said he can’t wait for everyone to come and see ours. Escobar and Luke Solomon are DJing the opening weekend then Dee Diggs Kim Anh, LADYMONIX, Cosmo, and Justin Strauss will play in the first few months.
In an interview, Escobar also explained that at Gabriela, he wants to encourage and foster freedom for any DJ who plays there. He believes there is a huge swathe of DJs who are being overlooked and not given their space and time to play extended sets. So he has made Gabriela a space for DJs to do so.
Escobar does not want the focus at Gabriela to be on ticket sales and long lineups. He wants it to have a reputation for taking promo pressure off DJs so that they can do their thing. Escobar explained that there has not been a new place in Williamsburg with great sound and an intimate dance floor in a while and hopes to bring that to the area.
