VNSSA Reminisces on ‘Insecurities’ Ahead of First Headline Tour After Successful Run
Having just finished her Hell Freezes Over tour, VNSSA recounts her insecurities before going on the road.
SoCal house and techno DJ/producer VNSSA recently completed her first headlining tour, Hell Freezes Over. A few weeks after its end, VNSSA recounts her experiences and the insecurities she faced throughout the process.
VNSSA started DJing by playing at local clubs and house parties before she eventually picked up production. Her debut single came out in 2018, and she has since released multiple EPs and singles, including a Beatport #1 “Word,” with Walker & Royce. Picking up momentum in her career, she spent most of her time opening for other bigger-name DJs.
VNSSA has opened for Chris Lake, Claptone, and Nora En Pure. In a recent Instagram post, she shared that when she opened up for these massive DJs, it felt like she was a “best friend in a rom com, always there for support, but never the main character.” As VNSSA prepared for her Hell Freezes Over tour, she began to second-guess if she could handle it.
In the same Instagram post, VNSSA mentioned that she was worried no one would show up, no one would dance, and no one would care about her “silly little dream.” Despite these insecurities, she played to packed, dancing crowds every night. The Hell Freezes Over tour spanned over four months and featured supporting acts Kaleena Zanders, Kyle Kinch, Mary Droppinz, and Nala.
Along the tour, VNSSA had a few experiences, mainly with fans, that purged her of her insecurities. At one stop, she was having trouble getting to the club and was taken to the venue by fans attending the show. At some others, she met fans who drove six hours for the show and met another who was grieving a partner.
Going from supporting act to headliner can be intimidating, but VNSSA did it with ease. The task was nothing short of insecurities and mental setbacks, but after a successful tour, VNSSA is thankful for being made the main character.
