Uber is Officially Launching in Ibiza this Month
Riding around the island has never been easier as Uber is now officially In Ibiza.
Uber has just announced that it is officially coming to Ibiza on November 29th for all the travel needs of locals and tourists alike. According to the platform, the launch of Uber in Ibiza will continue betting on collaboration with the taxi sector in the country. The taxi sector was first introduced in 2019 in Madrid, making Ibiza the eighth Spanish town to have a taxi in the Uber app.
The different kinds of services Uber will provide include Taxi, Uber Comfort, the premium VTC service, and Uber Van, which can hold up to six people. With the Comfort Reserve and Van Reverse services offered, individuals looking for a ride can secure a seat up to 90 days in advance.
Data released by Uber confirmed that more than 350,000 users tried to use the app during their stay in Ibiza since May of this year. Even with the popularity of Uber on an island that didn’t have the service, there was concern about displacing Taxi driver workers and their income.
The general director of Uber in Spain and Portugal, Felipe Fernández Aramburu, expressed the company’s goals of improving transportation while not taking it over. He stated that the company wants “to work hand in hand with taxi drivers, the local tourism sector, and public administrations to improve mobility in Ibiza.”
Ibiza taxi drivers who register to work with Uber can earn an incentive of 150 euros when 25 rides have been completed and take 300 euros for each new guest taxi driver they bring onboard. In Uber’s services, they have stated that Uber will not be hiring specific drivers for their app. Instead, they allow its technology to be used on a freelance hire basis by drivers with the necessary paperwork.
Hopefully, with Uber arriving, the time it takes to get to all the different nightclubs and events around the island will be cut down, so the hassle of arriving on time will be easy. After the Ibiza Uber launch, the company will now have services in 11 different cities in Spain.
