Bassnectar Announces NYE Show at Palladium Times Square in NYC
Despite a pending trial and numerous additional sexual misconduct allegations, Bassnectar has shared plans to throw an NYE event right in the middle of New York City.
The two-night New Year’s Eve event has been titled “A NEW HORIZON,” according to a show flyer that’s been circulating on the internet. The event is set to take place on December 30th and 31st, with each night being curated with a different lineup. Bassnectar himself will be making performances on both nights.
Night one will feature Dorfex Box, a longtime Bassnectar collaborator, in addition to two other names: Maidenspace and Crypticflow. On the second night, which is New Year’s Eve, Crypticflow will perform again, in addition to UHNK and Vyvid. The rest of the flyer doesn’t give much specific information, but it says “JOIN US FOR ANOTHER BASSNECTAR FAMILY REUNION” and clarified that the event will in fact be taking place in New York, although it doesn’t specify a venue.
Bassnectar fans most recently gathered for the DJ’s first show back in three years at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Bassnectar’s NYE event in New York will mark his second event back. After the flyer began circulating, additional details about the event were revealed.
The venue, Palladium Times Square, has an event page dedicated to Bassnectar’s NYE show. The event description reads, We back! And couldn’t be more excited to return to New York City and the historic Palladium Times Square for 2 nights over New Year’s Eve! Ring in 2024 and cross into the new horizon with the bass music you love.” Both single-night and two-night event tickets can be purchased on the website. Tickets are being sold through Live Nation.
The news of Bassnectar’s NYE Palladium show comes at a time when current and ex-fans are at odds about whether the artist should still have a platform. In 2020, various sexual abuse allegations against the DJ came to light, forcing him to cancel any upcoming shows and separate himself from his fans for nearly three years. Earlier this year, the artist reemerged with an exclusive, fan-only platform called “The Other Side,” followed by an album and numerous mixtapes.
Regardless of the continued support from some fans, many members of the dance music community do not support the artist and his team’s push to bring the Bassnectar project back to the EDM scene. An X user that goes by @beatsbydoyle posted a tweet that read, “Lorin Ashton is on trial (delayed to 2025) in US District Court for grooming/trafficking/statutory rape of 3 underage girls.” On the contrary, another user with an anonymous profile commented, “There actually just attempting to sue him. It’s called a civil trial. There would need to be some actual evidence of a crime. Coordinated made up stories and slander like this aren’t evidence of anything.”
