Inside Bassnectar’s Forthcoming Court Trial Dates Amid Return to Music Career

More information regarding the forthcoming Bassnectar court trial has been released including important details such as an official 2025 trial date.

Throughout the years, Bassnectar’s name has continued to make headlines in the news, but more recently not for his music career. Although a well-known figure in the electronic dance music scene, he remains embroiled in a legal battle that many fans have followed throughout the span of the case. Undoubtedly, the Bassnectar court trial and lawsuit will significantly influence the future of the artist and his music. 

If you are unfamiliar with the case against the artist, here is more information. Back in 2021, ​Rachel Ramsbottom filed a complaint against ​Lorin Ashton, known by many as ​Bassnectar. The complaint alleges that the popular bass music artist used his fame and influence to groom and sexually exploit underage girls. Bassnectar allegedly solicited underage girls through social media, concerts, and his charity organization, and engaged in sexual acts with them. The complaint further claims that the other defendants knowingly participated in or benefited from his sex trafficking venture. The entire twenty-two-page complaint brought against the DJ goes into more depth on the exact events and detailed experience of the plaintiffs in this trial.

Fast forward to 2023, after several years of court motions, this case is finally going to trial. On September 25th, some important new information on the case including official dates for Bassnectar’s trial became available online. The latest update on the trial proceedings includes an amended scheduling order, which both parties jointly requested. This order revises important deadlines in the case, giving a clearer picture of the legal timeline ahead. 

Firstly, the legal proceedings are scheduled to take place in the United States District Court. Specifically, it will be located in the Middle District of Tennessee, Nashville Division. The first of many events starts next year. On February 2nd, 2024, both of the legal teams’ deadlines for a motion to amend will kick off the trial schedule. This initial action calls for changes in the text or terms of the proposition. Following that, Rachel and Lorin will provide expert witness disclosures and reports. First Rachel’s team will provide this information on March 15th with Lorin presenting his on March 29th. Other notable dates include the close of written and fact discovery on May 17, 2024, the dispositive motion deadline on July 19, 2024, and of course the trial date on February 18th, 2025.
