On Saturday, October 7, superstar actor, Will Ferrell, returned to his alma mater at USC to headline a party at Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. It was parents’ weekend at USC, and the school’s Greek row welcomed parents and students to attend an array of parties before a football game against the University of Arizona Wildcats. Once Ferrell hit the decks, the phones came up and the rest is history.
In a TikTok video of the moment, Ferrell can seen bobbing to the beat from behind the decks. He was wearing black headphones, a backward hat, sunglasses, and a black zipped-up USC jacket. Many wonder how something of this magnitude even comes to fruition but it’s all thanks to his son, Magnus. Magnus Ferrell is a student at USC and a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He’s also one of his fraternities DJs which is where this elaborate plan came from. In a recent podcast appearance, Magnus claimed he simply asked his dad if he would DJ, which he gladly accepted.
After obtaining his degree from USC in Los Angeles in 1990, Ferrell has remained involved as an enthusiastic alumnus. In 2017, he delivered the commencement address to the graduating students, and in the following year, he and his spouse, Viveca Paulin, made a generous donation to establish the institution’s inaugural full scholarship for the women’s soccer team.
Additionally, Ferrell was also a member of Greek life while he was a university student. He was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity which is still active today. Many speculate Ferrell did some wild antics during his time at the fraternity but it’s all speculation, the only confirmed antic was his DJ debut this past weekend.
Lastly, if you’re ever planning on partying at the USC Greek Row, be sure to check out Sigma Alpha Mu. You just might be able to catch Will Ferrell or his song Magnus playing a set to a packed house.
