Beatport Distributes $150,000 in Grants for Second Annual Diversity + Parity Fund

The Beatport Group’s Diversity + Parity Fund honors six music industry organizations by distributing $150,000 in grants.

Known worldwide as the home for electronic music, The Beatport Group is striving to promote diversity in the industry. Celebrating their second annual Diversity + Parity Fund, The Beatport Group has just announced the winning six organizations to receive grants totaling $150,000.

Throughout the next year, they will not only distribute these grants but also provide hands-on support to the six chosen organizations. By offering strategy, community outreach, editorial and social media support, and more, The Beatport Group intends to honor initiatives that uplift diverse voices within the music industry.

From Beatport being the leading store for electronic music to Beatsource providing an open-format DJ community, it’s no surprise that the family of companies is stepping up to foster smaller initiatives. With over 150 submissions this year, The Beatport Group carefully selected organizations that represent festivals, conferences, writing camps, and queer film screenings.

This year’s grantees are Change The Beat, Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, ONE OFF TRAKS, Other Village People, Saffron, and We Are Moving The Needle. Coming from all ends of the globe, each organization works to spotlight creative minorities. For example, Canada’s Change The Beat has over 500 members of female, trans, and nonbinary artists. Through monthly remix contests, members can receive collaboration opportunities with top independent dance labels. They will also have the chance to perform alongside headlining producers at various nightclubs and festivals.

Beatport Grants

Whereas, South Africa’s Other Village People fosters safe spaces for self-expression and liberation. With The Beatport Group’s grant, OVP will introduce their newest project Queertopia, a 3-day festival designed to celebrate South African contemporary queer nightlife culture.

Each organization has its own way of aligning with the common goal of celebrating diversity within the music industry. And with The Beatport Group’s Diversity + Parity Fund, these initiatives will have the money and resources to put these ideas into action and help minority artists claim their space both on the dancefloor and behind the decks.
