All the must-haves for your EDM concert repertoire…

If you’re newer to the rave scene and looking for a little guidance on what to wear to an EDM concert and what staple pieces to buy, look no further! We’ve got you covered on all the must-haves and more, from accessories and apparel to tips and advice, as veteran ravers we’re passing on our fashion trials and tribulations, victories and successes…

Rave boots. Period.

The holy grail of all things rave – these are an absolute must! It’s raining and you traipse through puddle after puddle? No worries! Rave boots are essentially waterproof. A mosh pit opens up next to you and a 6-foot, 250-pound burly dude accidentally stomps on your foot? In these steel-toed stompers, you don’t feel a thing. If you’re trying to slay and look like an absolute model – staying comfortable while also elongating the legs – rave boots are a no-brainer. And since these are a staple piece, the rave boot is perennial – get a black pair and they will last you eons, regardless of trend.

Nipple pasties a.k.a. absolutely nothing!

This one is not for the faint of heart. Rocking nipple pasties and only nipple pasties at a festival might seem like a daunting feat, however, it can often be liberating. If you want to test the waters with this perennial trend but maybe not dive headfirst, try rocking a mesh tank top along with the pasties.

A mask. Revel in mystery.

Masks are a fun way to protect your respiratory system from festival dirt clouds, big billows of dust sitting over sets, stirred up by the thousands of dancing ravers. Masks come in all different shapes and sizes. They can be enigmatic, cheeky, seductive, and playful. They can hint at mystery and even come across as powerful. If you’ve never rocked a mask at a rave, it’s something we highly recommend you try.

Hair extensions and/or a wig!

If you’re spending upwards of three days at a festival (regardless if it’s Burning Man where this is a major trend), it is probably best to braid your hair in some way, shape, or form. If showers aren’t a guarantee and you’ve got some long locks, keeping it styled, anti-frizzed, and way from your face often helps to manage the insidious feeling of grime that can overtake you at the end of a festival. No matter what you decide, have fun with it and take risks! A festival is an opportunity to let loose and get creative.

A bikini with fun accessories.

It’s usually sweltering at the rave, like makeup dripping down your face, hair in a high pony, and excessively fanning yourself while drenched type of sweltering. To mitigate the extreme heat, rocking bikinis at the function has become a prominent trend. Buy a cut bikini and dress it up with fun accessories, a bucket hat, funky colors, a fun backpack, rave boots, and maybe a sarong or thin parachute pants, and you’re ready to dance the night away and beat the heat!

Regardless of what you wear to an EDM concert, whether it be boots, a mask, a bikini, or even a purple wig, always have fun with it! There’s no judgment here. Just peace, love, respect, and unity.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
