Halle Berry Slams Drake for Not Asking Permission to Use Her Famous Image to Promote New Single
Drake is in hot water after Halle Berry calls him out for posting a picture of her without permission.
Drake dropped a new single this week with SZA this week, “Slime You Out,” which is like any other Drake song, a certified lover boy smash. However, Drake is facing backlash from the movie star, Halle Berry for using her image without her permission.
To promote the new single, Drake used the image of Halle Berry getting slimed at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in 2012. Clearly annoyed at Drake’s behavior, Halle Berry posted rather literal Instagram that stated, “Sometimes you have to be the bigger guy… even if you’re a woman.”
Fans discussed in the comments of the post what they thought of Drake using her image without permission, and Halle did not hold back. One commenter wrote, “Drake ain’t sh*t compared to THE MISS HALLE BERRY ok He don’t compete where he don’t even compare. Simply outta respect he shoulda just asked her.” Halle responded with more intel on the situation writing back, “He did have his people call my people call my people and I said NO I didn’t like that image of slime all over my face in association with his song. And he chose to do it anyway! You see…that is the disrespect. Not cool!”
With the access of images on the internet this opens the question of what is kosher and what is not. As recently as last week Sean Penn actively spoke out against the use of his image in AI-generated clips. Although this an image owned by Getty, it is the likeness of Halle Berry, and she and everyone else do deserve a say in how their images are used in modern-day social media.
One commenter went as far as to say that this is a continued action by Drake displaying his dislike of women. However, we are unsure of the validity of this comment as well as his previous actions against women.
It is important to note that women typically face sexist barriers in the entertainment industry Whether that be that they are successful only because they are hot, or they are hot because their success bought it, or that they have ghostwriters or even special privilege or lack thereof base don how the public perceives their attractiveness. This spans further than the entertainment industry in movies and music but also to the day-to-day of any woman living.
