Alison Wonderland Defends Amelie Lens After Backlash Surrounding DJ Playing While Pregnant
History repeats itself which is why Alison WOnderland defends fellow DJ Amelie Lens on performing pregnant.
Being a female in a male-driven industry is difficult to do when garnering respect, but adding a pregnancy on top makes it all the more hard. As Amelie Lens comes under fire for performing while pregnant, fellow DJ Alison Wonderland defends her decision to perform on social media.
In the tweet below, Alison Wonderland expresses her opinion on performing while pregnant which she has experienced from earlier this year before giving birth. Just because an artist becomes pregnant, “life doesn’t have to stop”. Much like what Lens is currently going through, Wonderland went through very similar experiences of this misogyny like when she was told that getting pregnant would ruin her career as a musician.
In the comment section on the Instagram post below, many male users took to Amelie’s comment section to criticize her performing pregnant and she shot right back at the crowd. One commenter @black_sigatoka commented, “baby traumatized in 3…2…1….” to which Amelie replied, “Man not knowing anything about pregnancy but thinking it’s ok to judge a pregnant woman and her baby who is guided and advised by the best doctors in the world in 3…2..1…”
Another commenter @momenize asked, “Doesn’t jumping damage the kid?” Amelie replied to him informing him that she was “barely jumping” and that “jogging, swimming, fitness etc is all super healthy when pregnant. I would not go jumping on a trampoline 🙂 my doctors all said that I can do all sports/activities (including dancing and a bit of jumping) like I was doing before my pregnancy and they actually also advise you to keep doing all activities and sports you did before you were pregnant.”
On Amelie’s Instagram story that she posted on September 20, 2023, she explains that she will turn off the speakers completely while performing and mix from her headphones so the noise isn’t too loud for the baby. She also has canceled “small club shows where I cannot control the volume in the DJ booth” and shows with “layovers or heavy travel”. She is able to measure if an environment is too loud by keeping her “decibel meter with [her] at all times.”
Even with all the relentless criticism, Amelie is coming out strong and will be doing her last few shows before returning home for the last few weeks of pregnancy. If you’d like to catch one of her last few performances in California or the Netherlands, you can go to her website and purchase tickets now.
