Fans Remember Avicii on the 10th Anniversary of his Debut Album ‘True’
The beloved Avicii is remembered through the anniversary of the iconic album ‘True.’
For EDM fans all over the world, Avicii was one of one. A prodigious Swedish DJ and producer, Avicii began posting remixes on electronic platforms at the age of 16 and quickly rose to fame. After years of struggling with mental health problems and addiction issues, he tragically took his life in 2018. Avicii will always be remembered as one of the greatest EDM DJs of all time, and his most iconic album ‘True’ continues to posthumously honor his contributions to electronic music.
The LP was Avicii’s first-ever album, replete with ten tracks. The opening track ‘Wake Me Up’ has more than 2 billion streams on Spotify, ‘Hey Brother’ has just shy of 1 billion, and the album in total has more than 3.8 billion streams. Despite the album being over 10 years old, much of the music continues to reappear during sets from all types of artists worldwide.
Avicii went on to release three additional albums during his lifetime, ‘The Days / Nights,’ ‘True: Avicii by Avicii,’ and ‘Stories.’ A fifth album was released after his death titled ‘TIM.’ All proceeds from the album’s release directly benefited the Time Bergling Foundation, an organization dedicated to mental health awareness and suicide prevention.
The organization’s mission reads, “Our vision is a society where children and young people feel well, secure, confident and have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Those who are still unwell should be offered support quickly.” The organization most notably builds music studios in partnership with Save the Children in a project called Create Sessions For A Better Day. The foundation continues to build music studios all over Sweden, purposefully bringing music to youth and communities that need it the most.
