Kygo Pays Tribute to Jimmy Buffett After Singer’s Death at Age 76

Kygo Shares a Heartwarming tribute to musical Superstar Jimmy Buffett on Instagram following the artist’s death at 76 this weekend.

Kygo shared a touching tribute to the musical legend Jimmy Buffett this weekend after hearing news of his passing at 76 years old. Having begun their friendship back in 2019 when they performed together at Hangout Fest, the two once again shared the stage at Kygo’s 2021 installment of Palm Tree Festival in the Hamptons where he sang his hit song, ‘Margaritaville.’

Kygo, the iconic tropical house DJ and Producer shared on his Instagram, “Absolutely heartbroken by the news this morning. Jimmy was such an amazing artist and songwriter, but an even better person. I had the honor of sharing the stage with him, and I’m truly lucky to have called him a friend. Rest in peace to a true legend and inspiration ❤️🦜” The cross-over baffled fans but by sharing intimate moments between the two, it was clear the two famed artists had quite the bond.

Buffett sadly passed away this weekend on Friday, September 1st, at the age of 76 years old from a rare cancer called Merkel cell carcinoma. Although there was a vast age difference between these two (Kygo, 31), they shared a love of the tropical sound. Kygo, a tropical house pioneer, and Jimmy Buffett known for his beach anthems such as “Margaritaville” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”

In the post, Kygo shares pictures of them flying a plane where Jimmy Buffett sits co-pilot to Kygo, and a picture of them hanging out on a Private Jet. Kygo also shared memories of them at parties and being interviewed by Sirius XM. In this interview, Kygo is quoted saying that Jimmy Buffett is the “godfather of tropical house.”

Jimmy Buffett was a musical icon whose popularity spanned the ages from children to their grandparents. Singing his songs in the car on the way to the beach or blasting his tunes at a cookout after being in the sun all day. Nothing hits better than a Buffett tune and a cold Corona on a summer’s day.

Kygo’s and Jimmy Buffet’s friendship may have been shortlived in the grand scheme of things, but these two legends’ music is the background music to many beachside summer memories for myself and the rest of the Exron Team. One can only hope that the DJ can continue to honor Jimmy Buffett with ID flips of his tunes married with his tropical sound. May there be many margaritas and cheeseburgers in eternal paradise for Buffett. Watch Jimmy Buffett perform at Hangout Fest with Kygo here!

Hey! I'm Shiv! Music is the greatest part of my life, I remember discovering dubstep when I was 15/16 and my entire life was altered - robot noises?? I needed MORE! Now, I live in NYC and have seen over 60 artists of all genres; my favorites being Odesza, Subtronics, Rezz, Griz, Zeds Dead, John Summit and Kaskade. I am an enjoyer of music and will try everything once, I do not discriminate - there is beauty in all genres (minus country). You can usually find me in a warehouse at 4AM because I am nocturnal and will quite literally never say no to a show.

What's your reaction?
