Lane 8 Opens Up About Break From Touring and a Need for “Mental Health Reset”

In a recent Instagram post, California DJ/producer Lane 8 got candid about his much-needed “mental health” break.

This week, Lane 8 (a.k.a. Daniel Goldstein) shared a series of pictures of his summer adventures with his fans. The artist’s post reflected a marked difference from the rest of his feed, mainly containing touring promo and show footage. And as the caption would explain, it was the product of Lane 8 dedicating his summer to a mental health reset.

First, Daniel noted that finding a balance between work, family, health, and life has become a big focus for him. In a long heartfelt caption, he continued detailing the contents of a restorative summer with family away from touring. Particularly, he emphasized resisting the illusion of social media to always “be out there killing it every weekend.”

The post primarily featured several outdoorsy pictures of the artist with his wife and children. Among the carousel, however, Daniel also included a snap of himself and two colleagues looking happy in the studio. Clearly, this brief breath of fresh air helped rather than hindered Lane 8’s impulses to create new music.

Daniel entered the scene in 2015 under the deep-house label Anjunadeep, deemed a “future star” by the legendary Pete Tong. In 2016, Lane 8 started releasing music through his own label This Never Happened, an important milestone toward taking personal ownership over his sound.  Regardless of where you visit to attend one of his shows, you can certainly expect a no-phone policy enforced at the door with vacuum-sealed bags.

Lane 8 closed out his post by saying that “doing less is also pretty great” and he ultimately needs to “find what works for [him]”. Nonetheless, he reassured fans of more shows pending announcement in the next few months. Ultimately, music lovers and industry members alike should expect new material from the wholesome artist soon enough.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now a law school graduate, I eventually hope to merge my passions by working in music law. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list festivals to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and Sonus in Croatia. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Mochakk, Kevin de Vries, and Eli Brown.
