The Brooklyn Mirage Releases Statement Following Death of Two Patrons John Castic and Karl Clemente
The Brooklyn Mirage released a statement following the recent death of two young men after leaving the venue.
Following the tragic death of John Castic and Karl Clemente after attending Brooklyn Mirage events, management issued a somber statement. In an Instagram story, Mirage organizers expressed condolences to the families and assured the public of their commitment to safety. This statement comes after Castic, a 27-year-old Goldman Sachs employee, went missing after leaving the venue last Saturday.
Unfortunately, Castic’s body was discovered nearby in Newtown Creek on August 1st. Psychologist Karl Clemente, also 27, similarly vanished after attending a Brooklyn Mirage show on June 11th, and authorities found him in Newtown Creek five days later. The proximity of these incidents has led to speculation about a potential connection between the deaths.
The NYPD stated that they have yet to connect the two deaths, but investigations are ongoing. Nonetheless, the circumstances surrounding the tragedies are raising concerns among the public. Specifically, concertgoers noted that the venue’s limited cellphone service could make seeking help or locating lost friends more difficult.
The friends and family of the deceased are obviously still grappling with the devastating loss. Castic’s friend described him as “charismatic, high-energy, with a good sense of humor.” Furthermore, while his father attributed the tragedy to a “lapse of judgment,” he believes someone chased Castic before his disappearance.
The Brooklyn Mirage, located in the manufacturing zone of Bushwick, acknowledged the tragic events and is cooperating with authorities in their investigations. Councilmember Jennifer Gutiérrez, representing the district that includes the venue and Newtown Creek, has stressed the need for better safety measures in the area. Specifically, she emphasized the lack of lighting and scarce cell phone service, especially in a zone not intended for nightlife.
Avant Gardner also reassured the public that they take the safety of their patrons extremely seriously. The venue acknowledged the tragic loss and extended heartfelt thoughts to the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time.
