Is Skrillex a Scientologist?

Sonny Moore’s resurgence in the electronic scene this year has reignited curiosity about his past, specifically raising the question: Is Skrillex a Scientologist?

Skrillex‘s comeback has been nothing short of spectacular, with the drop of his albums “Quest for Fire” and “Don’t Get Too Close” earlier this year, not to mention the epic performances alongside Fred Again… and Four Tet. But lately, there has been a recent interest in Sonny Moore’s connection to the Church of Scientology.

In a recent TikTok video Skrillex was featured in a series of celebrities people may not know are Scientologists. While Sonny Moore has not directly claimed to be one, she seemed pretty convinced otherwise. Digging into his family history she revealed that he was adopted by a Scientology family which was later revealed to him by the Church.

She goes on to resurface a 2014 Rolling Stones interview, where Sonny claimed to dislike when Church followers were “attacked in the press” and quoted “the people that are in it, that are doing it, are people of good will, man. Those are my homeys. Those are the people I grew up with.” As a teenager, he attended Delphi, an L.A. arts academy based on the teachings of L. Ron Hubbard, taking several Scientology courses before leaving home at the young age of 16 to pursue his music dreams.

The TikToker also cited Aaron Smith-Levin videos, a former Scientologist and Vice President of the Aftermath Foundation, who claims that Skrillex has an auditor traveling with him though he has never claimed this to be true. The process of auditing involves the auditor asking questions to help the individual revisit past experiences and clear negative influences. This is facilitated using a device called an e-meter.

To round out her speculation, she believes Skrillex is actively involved with the Church because of the requirement to donate in order to stay a member. She points out that since his dad holds a prominent position in the Church, he might be contributing a significant chunk of money, indirectly supporting it.

While Skrillex hasn’t explicitly denied or confirmed if he is a Scientologist, it is likely that he’s keeping things under wraps to steer clear of any controversies that could potentially harm his career. Earlier this year we observed public backlash when it was revealed that Sullivan King‘s family had ties to Scientology which perhaps is the exact situation Skrillex wishes to avoid.

I’ve been with Exron since 2018 and have the privilege of contributing to the culture alongside other badass women whom I now call my friends. My introduction to the scene was first influenced by trap music, but my discography has since expanded to touch a bit of everything. Some of my favorite artists are Zeds Dead, Cloonee, Nghtmre, Flume, Infekt, Sosa, Bleu Clair, Subtronics, but the list goes on forever.
