Creators Behind London Printworks Set to Transform IKEA Building into 15k Capacity Warehouse Venue
Rave in a Refurbished Ikea, minus the meatballs, sub the techno; Broadwick Live works to transform a furniture warehouse into, Drumsheds.
The creators behind the now (temporarily?) shuttered Printworks, one of the city’s iconic and sought-after venue spaces, have set their sights on a new venture. Set to transform an old IKEA building into a massive warehouse venue with a capacity of 15,000 people. This ambitious project from the pros of London nightlife is sure to bring a fresh space to the scene.
DRUMSHEDS is a new venue concocted by the minds behind Printworks, The Beams, and Depot Mayfield. The team, Broadwick Live, has a legendary reputation for repurposing large industrial spaces into sick venues. Now, we get to see them transform yet another unassuming space into a labyrinth of music.
The decision to convert an IKEA building into a warehouse venue comes as no surprise. The building’s vast space and high ceilings make it an ideal canvas for creative transformation.
Broadwick Live says that the 15,000-person venue will be a completely new vibe in comparison to existing event spaces. The new warehouse venue is expected to cater to a wide range of events, but most importantly probably will host some pretty insane sets. With a capacity of 15,000 people, it will undoubtedly become a go-to destination for both local and international acts.
DRUMSHEDS aims to be a “Hybrid, multi-level, multi-room, set in a disused industrial warehouse in North London – this is the first dedicated culture space of its kind.” The cement walls are going to be epic for hearing reverberating bass in any show.
Taking an Ikea and turning it into a massive venue is insane. And I mean massive – it has over 600,000 square feet of space. Broadwick Live wants to keep the original elements of the warehouse alive including lift shafts and docking bays; grunge and hella cool.
Slated to open in September, the venue also has a mission to give back to the North London community. Simon Aldred, Director of Strategy ad Broadwick Live, is quoted as, “We want Drumsheds, like all the spaces we create, to be new centres of cultural gravity that provide the basis for human connection. A connection that people crave now more than ever.”
September can’t come soon enough. Lineups are soon to be announced and DRUMSHEDS is sure to become a mecca for music.
