Dozens Injured and 7 Hospitalized after Dangerous Hail at Red Rocks Concert

Mother Nature is not to be messed with, as concertgoers at Red Rocks Amphitheater learned the hard way last week after battling a major hail storm during the Louis Tomlinson concert.

There’s no better feeling than the anticipation you get right before a live performance. Add in the fact that this is your favorite live performer, and the excitement is automatically doubled. This is what the majority of concertgoers that headed to Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, CO for Louis Tomlinson’s Faith in the Future World tour undoubtedly felt while entering the legendary venue.

However, the fun quickly turned to fear for many of the attendees, and Louis Tomlinson never came onstage. What could have caused this? Let’s just say that for whatever reason, Mother Nature wasn’t interested in seeing this particular artist’s show–nor did she want anyone else to see the former One Direction member perform hits off his newest album.

The confusion began at 8:07 pm when Red Rocks announced on Twitter that the venue was in a weather delay due to an encroaching severe storm and urged concertgoers to seek shelter in their cars. However, at 8:35 pm, the venue returned to Twitter to give fans the all-clear, stating that “the show will resume shortly.”

The show, however, never came. Confusion turned to chaos around 9:00 pm when the storm returned with a vengeance; one concertgoer took a video at 9:04 pm of lightning striking right above the venue. At 9:14 pm, Red Rocks yet again announced the amphitheater was back in a weather delay, urging all present to take shelter.

By this point, however, it was too late. The majority of fans were caught in a brutal hailstorm that caused over 80 plus injuries, 7 of which were severe enough to be hospitalized (though non-life threatening). The golf ball-sized hail caused major bruising, broken bones, and excessive bleeding, along with the emotional terror of being caught in Mother Nature’s wrath.

Fans took to Twitter to share their experiences, with many posting videos that look straight out of a horror movie. “I’ve never been so scared in my life,” one user captioned a video of her attempting to leave the amphitheater while hail rained down. Screams and shouts of pain could be heard in the background.

Other videos show concertgoers attempting to take cover under the benches while panicked crowds tried to flee the area. One user posted a video of his car captioned, “Results from the Red Rocks hail storm last night,” depicting a cracked windshield and major roof damage, showing just how severe the storm was.

On June 27, Live Nation Colorado posted a statement with the caption, “Due to scheduling issues the Louis Tomlinson show at Red Rocks that was due to take place June 21, 2023, cannot be rescheduled this year and the decision has been made to cancel the show.”
