Jamie Jones Sends Loving Tribute to Michael Bibi at Parklife After Cancer Announcement
One love, one EDM community: Jamie Jones wished fellow underground house producer Michael Bibi a full recovery during his Parklife fest set in the wake of Bibi’s recent health announcement.
The reason we come back to electronic music again and again is because of the sense of community that comes with the sonic journey. The connection between fans becomes something more like friends; the connection between artists, like family. Welsh DJ Jamie Jones proved this point over the weekend when he made a touching tribute to fellow music producer Michael Bibi during his set at Parklife Festival.
A South London-based DJ and major player in the underground music scene, Bibi was recently diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma, a rare form of cancer that affects the brain and the spine. A couple of weeks ago, the revered artist took to social media to break the news and immediately received an outpouring of love, support, and prayers across the EDM community.
However, the well-wishes didn’t just stop at Instagram. This past weekend during his set at Parklife Festival in Manchester, England, fellow DJ Jamie Jones paid tribute to Bibi during his afternoon set. While remixing Bibi’s iconic track ‘Different Side’ (featuring KinAhau and Audio Bullys), a large image of Bibi appeared on a screen behind Jones with the words ‘Get Well Bibi’ emblazoned in capital letters.
As the beat dropped, the screen switched to a flashing message–‘Get Well Soon Michael’– complete with a red heart. Jones and Bibi have performed many a set together, with some iconic B2Bs taking place in Miami and Ibiza. The Parklife shoutout was especially touching considering the close bond between the two music producers.
Jones isn’t the only artist to actively support Bibi during this difficult time; when Solid Grooves kicked off its Ibiza residency this past week, every DJ acknowledged Bibi’s absence and dedicated their sets to him. Bibi, who founded the Solid Grooves label in 2015, was missed tremendously.
Bibi recently finished his first stage of cancer treatment; we, along with the rest of the electronic dance community, wish him well.
