Datsik Announces New Venue for Comeback Show After First One Was Canceled

Datsik moved his comeback show to a venue amidst backlash over the industry’s complacency with his sexual assault allegations.

Canadian dubstep artist Datsik recently revealed a new venue for his long-awaited comeback show. This comes after his initial performance at Avalon in L.A. was canceled amidst intense backlash over his past sexual abuse controversy. The controversial artist will allegedly play at a different L.A. venue, as he seeks to reignite his career.

Datsik’s cancelled comeback show at Avalon was a response to public outcry stemming from allegations of sexual misconduct made against him in the past. Last month, Datsik dropped a new album despite these allegations lingering in the air. Fans met the news with mixed reactions, having people at the extremes either berating or defending him.

According to his socials, a new undisclosed venue will be hosting the contentious performance.  Additionally, his caption reads, “This place is lit and I couldn’t be happier for all of us.”

In response to the controversy, one Redditor joked, “[h]e saw Bassnectar announced a comeback and figured why not try it too.” Despite a general apology, Datsik refused to address the issue directly and called the EDM community “idiots” on live video.

The artist has faced considerable backlash and public scrutiny since the allegations against him emerged. Ultimately, the success of his comeback hinges on his ability to sway public perception sensitively and responsibly.

The controversy surrounding Datsik’s past actions has sparked broader conversations about the accountability of artists and the music industry’s response to allegations of misconduct. Several DJs including Bassnectar, Blunts & Blondes & 12th Planet are also facing sexual assault allegations.  Chiefly, such news is likely a culture shock for the industry and may highlight the need for deeper change.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now a law school graduate, I eventually hope to merge my passions by working in music law. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list festivals to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and Sonus in Croatia. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Mochakk, Kevin de Vries, and Eli Brown.
