GRiZ Opens Up About Struggles With Nicotine Addiction After Quitting “Cold Turkey”
We all have our vices, it’s a difficult battle to conquer, Griz talks about his conflicts with Nicotine addiction.
GRiZ shares his thoughts on detoxifying from nicotine addiction including the trials and tribulations it brings. The funkadelic producer has gained the hearts of millions throughout his career in electronic dance music. As with anyone else, he has his growing pains too. The music industry as a whole tends to be associated with sex, drugs, and partying. However, GRiZ has reached a crossroads.
Late last week on May 4th, may the fourth be with you, he took to TikTok to discuss his newest lifestyle changes. The 54-second video goes over the effects of going “cold turkey” has had on his life. “I’m happy to report I’m officially 6 weeks off nicotine. No cigarettes, vape, nothing,” begin his video. GRiZ looking happy to share the update with his followers in a simple tee and hat.
Moreover, he went on to discuss how the change has made him feel. “Quit, cold turkey, and tell you what, I feel so much better,” he divulged. The discipline it takes for anyone to take matters into their own hands to recognize unhealthy habits and adjust accordingly is remarkable. Late last year on December 3rd he posted another TikTok sharing how he got sick, forcing him to quit nicotine then. Subsequently, he talks about how difficult it was but very necessary to get better from being ill.
So it’s no surprise that he has embraced letting go of nicotine altogether this year. “So if you’re struggling with nicotine addiction I feel you. It’s tough and it sucks a lot of the time,” he continued. Without a doubt, quitting any toxic habit is a push and pull of wanting to let go but wanting to go back. This is where perseverance kicks in. He went on, “And not a day goes by that I still don’t have a lot of cravings to go out and smoke and say screw it, I’m just gonna.”
Addiction isn’t a new subject for GRiZ, in August of 2016 he tweeted about his newest song release at the time dealing with the matter. The song, “Before I Go,” expresses the grip self-medication can have on an individual. The human experience can generate pain, depression and the crutch of substance abuse goes hand in hand. Yet it’s amazing to see GRiZ transform his life and create a better version of himself, for himself.
“I want to change my life and it’s tough and it’s difficult,” he went on to say. Recognizing the challenges it brings and embracing them is true personal evolution. He gave some final thoughts, “You can do it, I believe in you, I believe in me, we got this, I love you” Consequently, in his journey showing support for others to do the same, to take the first step in the right direction to personal growth.
