AEG Reclaims Tickets From Scalpers For Skrillex’s Red Rocks Show
When Skrillex sold out Red Rocks in seconds as a result of bots and scalping activity, AEG revealed that they were able to reclaim tickets and gave fans an opportunity to buy tickets through a lottery.
Skrillex announced that he is playing a five-hour-long set at Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre at the end of this month, sending the EDM community into a spiral of excitement paired with a lack of trust in AXS from stopping bots from buying all of the tickets. As soon as the presale began, thousands of fans were unable to buy tickets because the show had sold out.
As predicted by numerous listeners, selling out the iconic venue in seconds was not a celebration. Resale tickets were going for up to thousands of dollars, leaving people completely unable to attend. Fans called on AEG to fix the issue who looked further into the problem and were able to reclaim tickets from bots.
AEG Presents Rocky Mountain allowed fans to register for a chance to be randomly selected to buy tickets for Skrillex’s show on April 29. To help mitigate purchases from bots, a program called FAIR AXS required a one-dollar refundable deposit to enter the lottery. The number of tickets that were reclaimed is unknown, and the lottery did not guarantee that everyone who signed up would have the opportunity to get tickets.
While it is a step in the right direction, many fans who bought tickets for hundreds of dollars from resellers were understandably frustrated with the amount of money they spent. Resell websites are not necessarily reliable either and are filled with scalpers. Their actions led people to question why FAIR AXS is not an already-established means of purchasing tickets.
One Instagram user commented on AEG’s statement, replying with, “You all need to do this for more shows, what about the people who got screwed over on Pretty Lights and Flume and the other shows? Do better and fix it.”
This is Skrillex’s return to the rocks in nine years and has rightfully received incredible anticipation. Even though the ticket situation is frustrating and needs to be fixed, the show will surely to go down in history. Watch Skrillex’s 2014 set at Red Rocks here:
