Lotus Drummer Chuck Morris and Son Presumed Dead Following Kayak Trip

Lotus Drummer Chuck Morris and his son have disappeared from Beaver Lake in Arkansas while kayaking.

Since March 23rd, 2023, Lotus Drummer Chuck Morris and his son, Charley Morris, have been missing following a kayaking accident, according to KCTV. Lt. Shannon Jenkins of the Benton County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the two are presumed dead. It’s believed that one fell into the water and the other tried to rescue them.

The trip was taken for the son’s spring break vacation, and after the Lotus drummer’s tour just wrapped up, a family friend told KABC. Lotus is a band formed in 1999 and has found loyal fans from the electronic jam crowd.

Jenkins said the local law enforcement has taken action in trying to recover the bodies of the two missing people, changing the mission from a search and rescue to recovery. Search dogs, boats, and dive crews have been sent out to the lake with no discoveries still found. According to CBS News, Beaver Lake covers more than 31,000 acres and local law enforcement has reached out to local wildlife department officials to help with the search, as well as volunteer rescuers from the Cajun Coast Search and Rescue Team.

“We’re still out there,” Jenkins told CBS News Colorado. “We’ve been continuing our efforts over the last five days and unfortunately we haven’t located them yet.”

The members of Lotus took to Facebook on Tuesday to make a post in honor of the percussionist. They provided a GoFundMe link to support his surviving family members.

“We were all hoping for a miracle, but at this point, the search for Chuck and Charley has moved to a recovery,” the band wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday morning. “While we are deeply grieving, we plan to celebrate Chuck and Charley’s lives, our memories with them, and what they meant to so many people. Thank you to all who have reached out with fond words, stories, emotional and financial support.”
