Dubstep DJ Sippy Claims She “Ghost Produced” for Another Artist

In the tweet heard ’round the world (well, to 97.2k people around the world) Australian DJ Sippy claims that she has ghost produced for another major electronic artist.

Ghost producers, like ghostwriters, are pretty much exactly what they sound like–someone who creates tracks for another artist without typically being credited for their contribution. Last week, Sydney-born bass music powerhouse Sippy claimed that this is precisely what she’s done.

“My biggest flex is seeing a Soundcloud comment on one of my tracks saying ‘yo this sounds like *insert artist name here*, they must ghost produce for her’ knowing full well that I ghost produced for the artist mentioned,” the rising star tweeted on March 15.

Sippy Ghost Produced

Immediately Sippy’s die-hard fanbase took to the comments to try and unearth just who this artist was. One exchange between Sippy and bass music artist @BlakeSkinz uncovered the gender of the artist, with Sippy confirming they were male.

That thread went on to lead some fans to speculate that the artist in question was none other than British DJ TroyBoi, with @PizzaPal94 replying, “there’s 2 comments referring to him lmao, get it Sippy!”, allegedly in reference to the comments on Sippy’s Soundcloud.

Other fans congratulated Sippy on this accomplishment, with users like @midniteamity replying, “This is a mad flex,” and @thisisclouds_ commenting “Queen shit”. And yet other users commented on the nature of ghost producing itself, with @IamRownie tweeting, “I hope people will stop ghost producing because its [sic] bad for their mental health and this is not fair tbh underrated artists should be focused on growing their career then [sic] ghost producing.”

Sippy Ghosted Produced

Sippy herself is certainly a bass music star in the making. After working her way up through the Australian club and festival circuit and becoming hometown royalty, Sippy set her sights on expanding globally, moving to Los Angeles and becoming an alumnus of ICON Collective.

Sippy has performed at iconic American venues like Red Rocks Amphitheater and has gotten on the lineup at major EDM music festivals like Lost Lands and HARD Summer. She’s created remixes for megapopular artists like The Chainsmokers, Zeds Dead, NERVO, and more.

While Sippy has yet–if ever–to reveal the identity of the artist, the tweet sparked an interesting dialogue on artist rights, ghost producing, and power dynamics in the electronic music world.
