Miami Beach Curfew Rejected – MMW Parties Safe For Now

The city of Miami Beach rejected curfew measures for this upcoming weekend, meaning 2023 Miami Music Week parties will not be impacted.

Following two fatal shootings that rocked the South Beach area over this past weekend during spring break, the city considered enacting a curfew for the upcoming weekend. Unfortunately, with spring break and Miami Music Week overlapping, some parties were in jeopardy of being moved or canceled should the curfew pass.

Thankfully for Miami Music Week visitors, the Miami Beach City Commission voted Monday against setting a curfew for the forthcoming weekend. During the meeting, some argued that the third week of spring break had already passed, meaning this upcoming weekend would see fewer spring breakers and instead draw the Ultra Music Festival and MMW crowd.

The South Florida spring break crowd has historically drawn attention for violence, with curfews being enacted in previous years. Locals and those coming for Miami Music Week are hoping the violence is now behind them.

Ultra Music Festival is set to bring tens of thousands of music lovers from across the globe to Miami this weekend. One popular music venue, M2 Miami, is situated right in South Beach and would have been negatively impacted should the curfew have passed. However, to the delight of dance music fans, M2 Miami is scheduled to proceed with its parties as planned. STORY Miami would have also been impacted by a curfew in Miami Beach.

miami beach curfew rejected, M2 Miami parties will go on

M2 Miami has a full schedule this week, beginning with a grand opening party with Morten on Wednesday, March 22. Throughout the week and weekend, the venue will host internationally acclaimed DJ sensations like Adam Beyer, Charlotte de Witte, Sasha & John Digweed, and Carl Cox

Although the curfew for this coming weekend did not pass, the panel did vote to force the closure of liquor stores in the area by 6 PM EDT. The city still reserves the authority to enact an emergency curfew if needed, but as of now, music fans are free to party responsibly all night in Miami Beach.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
