Skyline Festival Prevailed Despite LA Weather Setbacks

Over this past weekend, techno and house fans gathered to celebrate their love for the music at Skyline Festival in Los Angeles.

Over the past weekend, Insomniac faced hefty unforeseen weather issues due to Southern California rain. For many Southern California residents, when all news outlets are sending severe weather and blizzard warnings, most would choose to stay home. But, not for house and techno lovers! Instead of staying indoors, we bundled up, put on our rain boots, and headed to Skyline Festival in Los Angeles.

At the start, the festival faced a few minor issues. Upon driving into Los Angeles, attendees were faced with severe rain and even hail at times only hours away from the event’s opening hours. Fans worried about cancellations or delays while they waited at home or in their hotel rooms. At around 2 pm on Saturday, the news came in. The festival made an announcement of delaying the venue start time by an hour. This ultimately was the right choice for everyone’s safety and well-being. And it gave everyone some more time to get ready and safely arrive at the epic Exposition Park

Although there were some hiccups in the beginning, fans were excited to get inside. The rain was not stopping the party. Insomniac also kindly provided attendees with rain ponchos to keep all our fashionable outfits dry. They also covered parts of the dance floors with plastic flooring and allowed attendees to bring personal umbrellas to the event. The party started at the East Side, Techno Stage, for all attendees while the West Side, House Stage, delayed opening until 7 pm. Once doors opened to West Side, house heads were thrilled to head over. Eli & Fur got the party started at West Side performing a stellar set that got everyone moving and grooving.

Other huge hits of the night included Michael Bibi, who packed the East Side stage, and Meduza, who played nothing but bangers his entire set. Last and certainly not least, the West Side welcomed “Rhyme Dust” superstar, Dom Dolla, to close out day one. Certainly, his set did not disappoint! He performed his biggest hits like “Take It”, his remix of Rufus du Sol’s “Make It Happen”, and of course “Rhyme Dust”. Although it rained his entire set, the precipitation only added to the fun. In closing, Dom Dolla surprised everyone with a new twist on his track, “Miracle Maker”, showcasing a DnB remix of the track ending the night perfectly.

Day two of Skyline was much better weather-wise for attendees. The sun was peaking and the forecast was calling for a heavy techno day! Huge names like Stella Bossi, Joseph Capriati, and Charlotte de Witte blessed the stage for the East Side. While house heads enjoyed an equally amazing lineup including Lucati, Joshwa, Shiba San, and Solardo, then the all-star Diplo. Some defining moments of the festival included Shiba San and Solardo taking us on a Latin journey. Then, the amazing set of the techno legends Joseph and Charlotte. Although the rain started again when Charlotte took the stage fans were eating it up! Letting the techno music take them on a journey in the pouring rain was something magical to witness.

In conclusion, Skyline Festival still remains a top selection for techno and house lovers. Some unexpected issues due to weather may have occurred, but the artist and atmosphere made up for the minor problems. Attendees may have muddy pants and shoes, but also admiration for the techno and house genre! Also, as a bonus, Daytrip Festival makes its return to Long Beach this summer! Hope to see all the house heads at the Queen Mary this June! Also, get a glimpse of our time at Skyline below!

My name is Emilee Gabbard. I currently live in sunny Orange County, CA. By day I am a project manager working in the aerospace industry, but by night a music blogger for yours truly, Exron Music! I have been writing for Exron Music for around eight months now and cannot wait to see what is to come throughout the years. At festivals and clubs, you will find me at any house and techno stage supporting my favorites Eli Brown or Dom Dolla, or belting every word to Porter Robinson tracks wherever he performs.
