Daft Punk to Release 35 Minutes of Unreleased Music for ‘Random Access Memories’ 10th Anniversary

Two years after splitting, Daft Punk announces that a 10th-anniversary edition of ‘Random Access Memories’ will be released on March 12.
On February 22, 2021, fans of Daft Punk were dealt a massive blow when the duo released a video on their social media channels titled “Epilogue.” This marked the end of one of the most successful runs in music history by what is arguably still one of the biggest acts in the world. It had been eight years since their last album, and people eventually grew used to their absence. However, for them to call it a day without giving their supporters any closure did feel a little … inconsiderate.
Fortunately, we were all mistaken. Daft Punk has done an extraordinary job in not only preserving their legacy but keeping it active even after their disbandment. A year after splitting up, the pair dropped a 25th-anniversary edition of their debut record, ‘Homework,’ featuring a remixed tracklist as well as behind-the-scenes footage from the ‘D.A.F.T.’ DVD. Fast forward another year and we have some incredible news yet again!
Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo aka. Daft Punk clarified on the two-year anniversary of officially parting ways that their “split” only means that they won’t be making new music together. For a duo that remained together for 28 years, the implications of this are huge! Hence, on February 22, 2023, they announced that the 10th-anniversary edition of their final record, ‘Random Access Memories,’ will be released on May 12.
As per their social channels, the new package will include 35 minutes of unreleased music, demos and outtakes. In total, it will include 9 new tracks from their sessions that didn’t make the final cut of the original release. Some of these recordings are unfinished whereas others are early takes; it even includes the song “Touch,” which played over their “Epilogue” two years ago.
Daft Punk continues to stay active in the music space. With eight bodies of work to their credit, their legacy is well-established not only in the electronic music space but also among those who appreciate genre-bending and experimentation. Though they made the tough call to stop putting out new material, there certainly won’t be a shortage of never-before-heard music from them.
The French house pioneers have transitioned seamlessly into veteran status while remaining in rotation even across modern audiences. The genius in that mustn’t be overlooked because rarely any act that has been around for almost three decades manages to pull that off. Once the new edition of ‘Random Access Memories’ is released next month, we can start looking forward to the three-year anniversary of the duo’s disbandment. If they come through again, we might just have to brand February 2022 International Daft Punk Day!
