Oliver Heldens Awarded Beatport’s Best-Selling Techno Artist for HI-LO Project

Beatport declares HI-LO, Oliver Heldens’ techno project, as top selling and streamed artist in their latest insider report. 

If you were to tell ‘Gecko’ producer, Oliver Heldens, back in the day he would be awarded as a top techno artist I am sure he would even not believe it! But, here we are in 2023 in Oliver Helden’s techno project, HI-LO, gaining popularity and recognition in this new music scene. Beatport released in their Beatport insider article the top-selling and streaming artist and labels. In the article, Beatport announces HI-LO as the number one spot for not one but two categories! He was awarded as top selling and streaming techno artist! 

Techno is a genre that has previously been overlooked by many. But, in recent years the popularity of the genre has soared. This genre of electronic dance music originated in Detroit, Michigan in the United States during the mid-to-late 1980s. With its repetitive beat mashed together with heavy bass and synthesizer melodies, what is not to love? The dedicated fans new and old, are living in the era of techno and underground. How awesome is that! Also, with artists everyone loved back in 2015 like Oliver Heldens bringing their talents to the genre, there is no slowing down on the popularity of techno music. 

HI-LO is the alias of Dutch DJ and producer, Oliver Heldens. He first adopted this alter ego in 2015 to explore a new type of sound. Unlike his signature future house sound, HI-LO is more focused on techno and bass house, with heavy beats and dark, brooding basslines. HI-LO has released several successful tracks, including “Renegade Mastah,” “Kronos,” and his latest EP release “Pura Vida” released on February 10th. HI-LO’s unique style and energy behind the decks make him a popular and dynamic performer techno scene. 

Currently, the growing techno legend is killing it. He kicked off 2023 with a bang. The artist earned in the latest report as Beatport’s top-selling techno artist for the last six months! With his collaborative song with Space 92, “Mercury” holds the number one slot on the genre’s best-sellers list. Next up, amazingly HI-LO held the second track on the top-selling list. The absolute anthem “WANNA GO BANG,” with DJ Deeon back in October of 2022 holds the second spot. 

His stellar tracks also earned him number one as the most streamed techno artist. Other notable artists in the top 10 included Deborah de Luca, Eli Brown, and Enrico Sangiuliano – who are all techno legends themselves! So, for HI-LO to be number one is a huge success!
