Fans Slam Bassnectar for Announcing Return Without Apology For Sexual Abuse Allegations

The return of Bassnectar did not go over well with Reddit…

The deep, dark recesses of Reddit have descended upon Bassnectar’s most recent stirring, a series of developments that sparked whispers of his return. After three years of silence, Bassnectar content resurfaced via a cryptic Instagram post on his page, a Reddit thread, and a membership program titled “The Other Side.”

The membership program was advertised as a forum for exclusive content, a platform supposedly helmed by a group of “fans.” Although Bassnectar was never doxed as the site’s captain, he never released a statement claiming the contrary or denying affiliation. And so it was, the website remained shrouded in rumors, conspiracy, and mystery.

Reddit’s contrarian platform went in on the rumors of Bassnectar’s comeback, popping off heavily. “No explanation to the fans about the loss of their culture, their people, their family,” wrote a former fan on Bassnectar’s unofficial subreddit. “No mention of the impact that the loss of this community had on people in the middle of the pandemic. Nothing. And now he’s back, tugging on heartstrings in word-heavy emails? Asking me to sign back up, tune back in, come on back, the water’s fine…. like nothing ever happened?”

The nameless assailant continued his polemic with the closing words, “Lorin owes me an apology…” This commentary regarding Bassnectar’s adverse estrangement from the EDM community kindled a massive outpouring of commiseration, anger, and hearsay.

Another individual on the thread articulated his/her belief that Bassnectar was undoubtedly espousing a comeback. “I work in Project Management and Application Development,” alleged the user. “Totally different industry, but there are red flags here that fit into both worlds: rushed and bumpy ‘release’, ill-prepared and incomplete features, paywall to get in, vague details and promises of what is to come, on-the-go release, pending legal cases, etc…”

The user closed his argument with, “If the funding and interest are not there to get live shows going… they simply won’t happen.” He expanded his commentary further, driving the point home. “If the subscription count is mediocre, Bassnectar will live his late years on the web, creating content for the fans and releasing memories for the OG’s. But without a successful amount of interest in this subscription, we’ll most likely never see him play again…”

Will the world ever see Bassnectar live again? Spinning records? Up for debate. Speaking before a grand jury, live and in the flesh? Certain, inexorable, fated.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
