Eli & Fur Deliver Spiritual Experience at Techno Tasting Event in NYC Synagogue

Known for their unconventional path in the music industry, Eli & Fur wowed yet again with a performance at a decommissioned synagogue in LES.

Of all the places where a music event could take place, a synagogue is typically not high on the list.  Nonetheless, Techno Tasting Menu had the brilliant idea to team up with Eli & Fur to host an event inside the decommissioned synagogue.  This weekend, London-based Eli & Fur took over the Angel Orensanz Foundation, leaving attendees mesmerized by the literal symphony of sights and sounds.

Upon arrival at the venue, fans immediately encountered the strikingly beautiful artistry of the old synagogue-turned-arts-center. While approaching the stage, concertgoers certainly realized a magical night awaited as their awe grew at the venue’s sheer grandeur. A beautiful example of Spanish-Moorish architecture, it is reportedly the oldest surviving synagogue building in New York City.

It was the perfect evening to groove to their signature house sounds and marvel at their captivating stage presence. The synagogue’s design was undoubtedly unique – with arched windows, an octagonal dome, and an ornate façade trimmed with intricate carvings of foliage and Hebrew inscriptions. Inside the synagogue, visitors will find beautiful stained-glass windows, a stone mikveh, and a striking wooden ark.

The performance began with an eerie and bass-filled set by Georgi, an NYC-based DJ and vocalist.  Immediately, the rising star commanded the stage with her impressive cross-genre mixes, most notably “Pump the Breaks” by Dom Dolla.  Furthermore, Georgi surprised the crowd with a treat as she sang her own vocals for one of her soul-filled tracks.

Next up was Eli & Fur’s long-anticipated energetic set, which had the crowd entranced with their melodic, deep house beats. For reasons unknown, only Eli was present for the night’s event.  Nevertheless, the dynamo kept the energy high throughout her set and incorporated a variety of soulful songs, from original tracks to remixes of popular songs.

Of those that stood out were Einmusik’s mix of their hit “To the Sea” and Shouse’s “Won’t Forget You.” Furthermore, the Brit frequently interacted with the audience, creating a special connection as she grinned and gestured toward crowd members. Even in her partner’s absence, Eli undoubtedly mesmerized the audience with her exquisite sound and serious talent.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now a law school graduate, I eventually hope to merge my passions by working in music law. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list festivals to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and Sonus in Croatia. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Mochakk, Kevin de Vries, and Eli Brown.
