Bassnectar Sends Email To Fans Inviting Them To “The Other Side”

Amid controversy and sexual misconduct allegations, The Bassnectar Project notifies fans of their return with a shocking email.

On Saturday morning, many Bassnetcar fans (we should say many ex-fans, too) woke up to an email from the artist’s team. The headline of the email reads, “You’re Invited to Enter The Other Side.” This news is coming off other recent announcements–a new mixtape on Mixcloud, an upcoming album release, and lots of chatter about Bassnectar’s return and what it means for the EDM community.

In the email, the speaker regularly uses the term “we” to emphasize the news is coming from the Bassnectar Project, not just from the DJ himself. They say things like “we know you’re out there..” and “…our team is inspired to speak through art…” The email speaks of “The Other Side” which sounds to be a rebranding of the original Bassnectar project.

The email goes on, “We designed The Other Side to be a direct outlet for imagination, as well as a centralized hub of transmission, interaction and nurturing for our community. It’s many months in the making, and we’ll be launching in full effect in the coming weeks.”

Overall, the announcement was vague and almost cryptic. But based on recent discourse on Twitter and Reddit, we know that Bassnectar, his team, and members of a private Discord have been dropping clues everywhere about his return to music. Rumors of a new website with a paid membership, unlocktheotherside.com have recently been confirmed. Navigating to the web address on a mobile divide now brings you to a member-only website with paid tiers for joining.

According to the website, members of The Other Side “Unlocked” members get exclusive access to tickets, exclusive access to music, and exclusive access to community haven (a “brand new interactive sanctuary space”). One of those perks is “Bassnectar Relive.” There is also a free tier called Freestyle which includes some other benefits.

Many fans took to social media to express their outrage at receiving this email from Bassnectar on Saturday morning. One person tweeted, “Are you actually kidding me…bassnectar project has the audacity to send out emails relaunchin his bulls**t? When it hasn’t even settled in the court case? The audacity [throwing up emoji].” Another person wrote, “This motherf**ker really thinks he can just Waltz back into the EDM world like nothing happens… and NOW is sending emails essentially asking people to willfully send them shit to post in a mega database of pics??? @bassnectar f**king leave. Nobody wants you here anymore.”

As of now, Bassnectar is still awaiting trial for a civil suit addressing the sexual misconduct allegations.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
