Michael Bibi Gets a Standing Ovation During His Bonbonniere Tulum Set

Bibi pulled out all the stops at Bonbonniere as he dropped a mix of old and new tracks, giving a standing-ovation-worthy performance.

Upon crossing the threshold of Bonbonniere’s rustic wooden front doors, a winding open walkway unfolds like a row of dominoes amid the lofty tree branches. Cricket chirps fill the tepid night air before the sound of bass bumping grows increasingly stronger. Evidently, hundreds of fans poured through its tiny entryway to experience catharsis through underground powerhouse Michael Bibi’s performance.

As you step into the nightclub, a dark sea of black furniture, red lights, and jungle-like plants envelop your surroundings. With the volume and excitement raising, attendees experienced an audiovisual spectacle as the diamond-shaped panels overhead began shifting to the beat.  From the moment he got on the decks, Michael Bibi commanded the crowd with his mysterious and enrapturing mixes.

Off the bat, the London-based producer showcased his groovy basslines and funky beats, paired with a hint of soulful vocals. Bibi took care to include several classics as well as new releases.  Most notable was his transition from Kevin de Vries’ “Dance with Me” into his remix of tech-house banger “Bocat.”  In addition, the artist featured his iconic “Hanging Tree” mix, along with the recent Bicep x Nelly Furtado mash-up hit.

As the morning grew closer, Bibi also kept teasing the crowd with several false endings to his set.  The crowd went wild clapping as the lights came on, only for him to drop an even final filthier track. To put things lightly, Bibi’s track-list choice was certainly nothing short of immaculate and undoubtedly left the crowd in a trance.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now a law school graduate, I eventually hope to merge my passions by working in music law. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list festivals to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and Sonus in Croatia. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Mochakk, Kevin de Vries, and Eli Brown.
