Diplo’s Higher Ground Brings Beautiful Chaos to Zamna Festival Tulum

Last week, Diplo’s iconic record label Higher Ground rocked Zamna Festival in Tulum, Mexico with an all-star lineup fit for the heavens.

Zamna Festival, an annual event in Tulum, Mexico, brings together thousands of music lovers for 15 days of non-stop entertainment and cultural immersion. Held at the beautiful outdoor Zamna Hotel, Zamna features diverse lineups across several music genres, including techno, house, and tribal.  Furthermore, Zamna hosted a one-night event during Miami’s Art Basel featuring ARTBAT and Camelphat – a wonderful teaser for music fans overseas.

Headlined by Diplo (of course) and John Summit, the event also featured performances from Francis Mercier, LP Giobbi, and Solardo.  The night began with Francis Mercier, who set the tone with a high-energy set that got the crowd moving. Thereafter, LP Giobbi wasted no time infusing the crowd with her infectious and one-of-a-kind musical profile.

The “one-woman jam band” delivered a set that was both deep and driving, showcasing her signature piano loops and uplifting melodies.  Solardo followed, taking the energy to new heights with their infectious beats and crowd-pleasing drops.  As the night progressed, the excitement grew exponentially as Diplo took to the stage.

The world-class DJ mixed an array of songs, from trap to reggaeton, to old-school rap and pop.  The crowd naturally erupted as he dropped hit after hit, including “Welcome to the Party” and “So Long” featuring Cam.  The excitement was palpable as Diplo closed out his set, leaving fans craving a burst of energy to guide them into the morning hours.

Of course, the excitement didn’t end there, as Diplo joined Summit for a surprise back-to-back appearance throughout his set. The crowd went wild as the electronic music titans shared the stage, creating an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance.  The crowd was electric from start to finish, closing the night out with Summit’s feel-good track “Don’t Forget My Love.”

Overall, the Higher Ground event provided an unforgettable experience, with a perfect blend of music, art, culture, and sustainability. The organizers did an excellent job of creating a unique atmosphere that truly embodied the spirit of Tulum. Certainly, the event is already highly anticipated by music lovers all over the world for next year’s edition.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10 years + counting. I have always had a love for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree. Though I have long been enamored by the music, I only recently joined the Exron team in November 2022. I am currently entering my last year of law school and hope to merge my personal and professional lives by working in the music industry. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list items to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and ADE in the Netherlands. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Kevin de Vries, Eli Brown, and John Summit.
