Rumors of a New Bassnectar Album Leak From Private Discord

Nothing has been publicly confirmed by Bassnectar or his team, but here’s what we know.

In 2020, various sexual misconduct allegations against Bassnectar came to light. The artist decided to step down from his platform, canceling any upcoming events and going silent on social media. In part of a lengthy statement regarding the allegations, Bassnectar said, “…I have learned to recognize that just because I have never intentionally harmed a woman, there are ways that I could cause unintentional harm and want to take responsibility for that.”

Following that statement which was made in June 2020, fans had not publicly heard from the artist. There were rumors of his sighting at Lightning In A Bottle, a leaked mixtape that was rumored to be mixed by him, and lots of discourse on Reddit speculating his whereabouts. And while many fans ditched his merch and covered up their bassdrop tattoos, others continue to represent the artist at festivals and shows by wearing his merch

This week, a flyer began circulating around various social media platforms announcing a new Bassnectar album, titled ‘The Golden Rule’ which would be released this Valentine’s Day. The flyer reads, “All 15 brand new Bassnectar songs will be released on Valentine’s Day 2023. Spanning the spectrum of amorphous music, featuring tons of new collaborations, and maximum creativity – we are releasing the first half NOW to UNLOCKED Members, exclusively on The Other Side, with a new track added each week!”

When attempting to access the site, unlocktheotherside.com, we were promoted to enter a password. It’s rumored that this information was first shared in a discord channel for active Bassnectar fans. On the Bassnectar subreddit page, at least one mod has confirmed there was a “leak.” Now, of course, many are just learning about the “secret discord” and attempting to gain access without much success.

Bassnectar himself nor his team have not publicly confirmed or denied the legitimacy of the announcement. However, many people feel this news lines up with the rumors that have been circling for the past year or so regarding his imminent return.

In April 2021, the civil case against Lorin Ashton a.k.a. Bassnectar was brought to light. Currently, he is still awaiting trial for the civil suit against him, filed by three female plaintiffs. The premise of the suit is that Bassnectar had sexual relations with women who were under 18, which included soliciting nude photographs. The DJ denied the allegations and demanded a jury trial

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
