Watch this throwback video of Deadmau5’s reaction to the vocal demo submitted for his track, “The Veldt”.

deadmau5 is truly an artist that was ahead of his time when he started producing music in 2002. He was amongst some of the first to introduce mainstream media to electronic music.

By 2012 deadmau5 had garnered a solid following and his fans played an important part in the creation of his track, “The Veldt”. During a demo listening live stream, Zimmerman was encouraged by the chat to listen to the Chris James vocal sample submitted.

This video was taken on March 20, 2012, and the track was released on May 8, 2012, using James’ vocals over his own. For someone that has been in the game so long, deadmau5 is far from retirement.

The Canadian DJ is yet again evolving his music career and at the beginning of 2022, he started a new project with Kaskade to create Kx5. “Escape” featuring Hayla was the first track to release under their new DJ duo and saw widespread positive reviews.

So much so that it the track was followed by a remix album with contributions from Subtronics, John Summit, LP Giobbi, Spencer Brown, and LoKii. In less than a year Kx5 has already brought us several tracks, “Take Me High”, “Alive, “Avalanche”, and “When I Talk”. In December, they made history headlining the largest dance event in Los Angeles to ever be held.

deadmau5 is set to play several festival sets this year including Ultra Miami, Testpilot, Breakaway, and also at the soon-to-be-closing London venue, Printworks. Aside from his music, Zimmerman is an icon standing out with his famous “mau5head” headpiece and will continue to expand his brand in ways of gaming, racing, liquor endorsements, NFTs, and other digital endeavors this year.
