Two years post the hole of isolation, desecration, and despair later… and the kids are doing all right! In this year of rapturous recovery, the flowers bloomed, the bees buzzed, the birds chirped, normalcy dawned, DJs hit the deck with dope new music, and festivals resurged in full force. The majority ruled in favor of absolute mayhem in the year 2022 and it was righteous. Bassnectar stealthily dropped a mixtape ahead of his 2023 sexual misconduct trials.

EDM’s fallen archangel Bassnectar – who awaits trial for multiple counts of trafficking and grooming, as well as the sexual assault of a minor – allegedly released a mixtape via Reddit. The catch: since the mixtape was uploaded and re-uploaded to the platform, procuring countless iterations, the tape’s origins became untraceable. Fans speculated on Reddit that the upload was Bassnectar’s silent way of communicating presence. Creepy? Perhaps!

Sullivan King and his entire family were doxed as secret Scientologists.

Yeah, that one was pretty frickin’ weird, unexplainable, and alien, yet there we were! In an audit, it was made public that Sullivan King’s immediate family made considerable donations to the Church of Scientology, a super-obscure cult with more than 10,000 voodoo hubs worldwide. Twitter was up in arms, ready to cancel poor Sullivan King, yet the most salient question of the entire scandal was, “What is Scientology?” Your guess was as good as mine!

Subtronics & Level Up, Porter Robinson, Lele Pons & Guaynaa, and Illenium all got engaged!

Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue – give these love birds a round of applause for romance was in the air this year! Subtronics wifed up his dope DJ girlfriend Level Up, Porter Robinson proposed to his longtime girlfriend Rika Mikuriya, Lele Pons and Guaynaa got engaged in front of thousands of fans at Tomorrowland, and Illenium asked his beautiful girlfriend Laura for her hand in marriage while traveling the Italian coast.

Getter came for Excision, an industry behemoth, and started a public feud.

Getter woke up one morning and chose violence, inciting a Twitter thumb war with none other than the man, the myth, and the legend Excision. Getter called out Excision for allegedly ripping music from Space Laces. Excision publicly addressed the accusations in a six-part dissertation confirming his affiliation with Space Laces and his family (it was giving “wholesome besties”). The statement also stipulated that proper crediting was attributed to any and all artists, Space Laces included, in the publication of Excision’s music. Space Laces released a cryptic counter statement confirming love for his bestie Jeff, yet simultaneous disappointment for not receiving significant recognition. Was it an indelible, inexorable, infallible denial of Getter’s accusations? Unfortunately, it was not.

Jauz welcomed his newborn daughter into the world and Tiesto welcomed his second child and first son.

Datsik tried to make a comeback in an unhinged Instagram live replete with explicatives, alcohol, and creeping.

This one was feral since his sexual assault allegations were some of the most concerning, trashy, and gross to date. A for effort but it was a “no” from us, dawg. Try again never!

The music industry’s landmine of sexual assault allegations delivered horror story after horror story.

From Blunts and Blondes’ unexpected dethroning to the allegations wagered against Gammer, Trampa, 12th Planet, Sky Suite, and Mean Mug Music, there were some black clouds hovering over select, excommunicated moguls this year. No matter the artist or caliber of the scandal in 2022, our thoughts, prayers, and energies always resonated with the victims and survivors.

Seven Lions continued to prove that love is love in the cutest polyamory throuple of all time!

Seven Lions and his wife and girlfriend, Emma Montalvo and Courtney Simmons, remained happily in love. Emma and Courtney formed a girl DJ duo, Gem & Tauri, and played their first headlining set at this year’s Beyond Wonderland. For the remainder of the year, their roster consisted of EDC Las Vegas, Global Dance Festival, Electric Zoo, North Coast, and Dancefestopia. Seven Lions also announced that in 2023 he plans to drop a debut album. Clearly, these three thrived and we loved to see it!
