GRiZ Cancels GRiZMAS Afterparties Saying the 12-Day Run Has Him “Feeling Spread Thin”

With two shows left in his GRiZMAS tour, GRiZ announced that he will be canceling his remaining two afterparties to take care of himself.

Michigan-born DJ, songwriter, and producer GRiZ recently took to Instagram to announce the cancellation of his remaining afterparties.  In a lengthy story, he explained how the last 10 days left him feeling “spread thin.” Furthermore, he emphasized how difficult the decision was but that ultimately his “mental and physical health” came first.

The dance community is, of course, no stranger to the phenomenon of burnout among its most beloved artists.  However, since the death of Avicii in 2016, DJs feel more empowered to speak up and take breaks where needed.  Hardwell made waves in 2018 by announcing his hiatus to recenter his creative energy, from which he recently returned.

Just one month ago, GRiZ released the long-awaited seventh installment of his popular EP series. Similar to his previous releases, ‘Bangers[7].Zip’ consists of a short but memorable tracklist.  Undoubtedly, the three new hits seamlessly deliver a bone-chilling bass that energizes dubstep fans.

‘Bangers[7].Zip’ marks GRiZ’s long-awaited return from a two-year hiatus. Surely, the musical mastermind structured his records to leave fans practically salivating for the next EP. With the help of now full-time touring members ProbCause and Chrishira Perrier, the ‘Bangers’ series has helped to animate fans like never before.

If his innovations in the studio weren’t enough, GRiZ often demonstrates his immense amount of care for the dance community.  Last July, the multi-talented musician launched the debut of the Harmony Project, which will have a tent at every one of his events to provide test kits and harm reduction services. Moreover, GRiZ is a vocal advocate in the queer EDM community and recently shared his heartache over the Club Q shooting.

Kudos to GRiZ for prioritizing his wellbeing, he is a gem that must be protected at all costs. For more information on his end-of-year tour schedule, click here.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now a law school graduate, I eventually hope to merge my passions by working in music law. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list festivals to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and Sonus in Croatia. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Mochakk, Kevin de Vries, and Eli Brown.
