Carl Cox Reveals First Album in Over a Decade ‘Electronic Generations’

Karan Singh — 1 month ago

Legendary DJ Carl Cox has released his first full-length album since 2011.

British house and techno veteran Carl Cox is back on the scene with a brand-new record. ‘Electronic Generations’ is the pioneering DJ’s fifth full-length release and his first in over a decade, following 2011’s ‘All Roads Lead to the Dancefloor.’

Most fans first listened to the album when it dropped worldwide on December 2, but a select few were lucky enough to have a taste a few months back. Cox headlined Wembley Arena back in October and played the entire album, head to toe, prior to its official release. After putting out the widely successful ‘Welcome to My World’ EP that same month in addition to a series of singles, the long-awaited album is finally here.

Cox has been around the electronic music space from the start. Having made a career out of defying the norm, he is now at a stage in his career where he is reaping the benefits of a world he helped create. ‘Electronic Generations’ is robotic, innovative, and, above all, familiar. This LP, among other things, is a declaration of his legacy.

About the record, Cox said the following: “I could be complacent and just stick to what I already do but I can’t do that. I have to go out, I have to drag my gear around, I have to set it up, I have to get a soundcheck, I have to make sure that when I do come on, it’s intense. It’s where I should be, where I need to be right now for me to be fulfilled in my position of who I am as a DJ and an artist.”

Hello party people! Just wanted to let you know that with the delay in vinyl manufacturing finally solved, the vinyl and digital release of my new album Electronic Generations has been moved to 2nd December so that everyone can experience the album at the same. Nearly there!🤖🖤 pic.twitter.com/QmekPhK2BN

Despite his long-lasting presence, Cox does not rely too heavily on an established sound. He is constantly taking on new challenges and finding new ways to push the boundary while remaining true to his raw roots of techno. The new record is largely made up of live improvisations from his live shows — upon observing how much fans enjoyed them, he extracted his greatest hits and polished them into a studio bundle. His emphasis on primitive immediacy has now become his signature approach, and his latest release is yet another demonstration of this.

With over 30 years in the electronic music domain to his credit, Carl Cox has devoted his life to elevating the dance and club culture that has acted as a vessel for his work. Throughout his vibrant career, he has never lost touch with those who brought him this far, which is why he continues to tour the world and play to audiences across different countries. Most recently, he played a show in Goa, India, with the possibility of more performances never off the table.
